Educational Visit to Officers Training Academy (OTA)

Participants : 17 students (HIS Guindy)&38 students (HIS Karapakkam) with Principal Dr. Lalli , Dean Academics Mr. Johnson Mathew Sir, and TeachersMs. Anila & Ms. Shashi
Objective of the Visit
- To provide students first-hand exposure to the training environment of the Indian Armed Forces.
- To understand the functioning, history, and significance of the Officers Training Academy.
- To inspire students to explore career opportunities in the Defence Services (NDA/OTA).
- To foster discipline, leadership qualities, and patriotism among learners.
Welcome and Introduction
- Students reached OTA at 8:45 a.m. and were received and guided by Army personnel.
- The program began at the auditorium with an interactive briefing by Captain Raminder Dhillon, who explained the role and vision of OTA.
A documentary was screened showcasing:
- The transformation of civilians into commissioned officers
- The formation and history of OTA
- Training methods followed for Indian and international cadets
- The values, discipline, and ethos upheld at the Academy
Highlights of the Visit
Military Museum:
Students explored displays of weapons, uniforms, medals, models, and historical exhibits.
Gained insights into the evolution and achievements of the Indian Army.
Horse Riding:
Students and teachers experienced supervised horse riding.
Visited the horse stables and learned about horse care and training procedures.
Combat weapon Shooting Simulator Training:
Hands-on virtual shooting experience using a digital firing simulator.
Students were taught how to aim, fire, and analyse shot accuracy.
Campus Exposure:
A guided tour of OTA facilities including:
- Football ground
- Basketball court
- Training blocks and activity areas
Students gained an understanding of the physical and academic training environment of cadets.
Cadets’ Mess Visit:
Observed the functioning of the large, well-maintained Officer Cadets’ Mess.
Interaction with Lieutenant General Michael A.J. Fernandez, who addressed students on:
- Life in the Armed Forces
- Benefits of joining the Army
- Training, discipline, and career pathways
- His motivational speech deeply inspired many students.
High Tea with Army Officials:
Students and staff were served a delicious high tea.
A rare opportunity to interact informally with high-ranking officials in a relaxed setting.
Learning Outcomes for the Students
- Developed a clear understanding of Army training, discipline, and lifestyle.
- Gained awareness about opportunities through NDA and OTA.
- Experienced hands-on learning through horse riding and shooting training.
- Became inspired to pursue careers in the Defence Forces.
- Understood the role, responsibility, and values upheld by the Indian military.

The visit to OTA was a highly inspiring and educational experience for both students and teachers.
